Khao yai Thiang wind farm
A photo series from the Khao yai Thiang wind farm 55 Km west of Korat (Nakhon Ratchasima) The park consists of 12 turbines in a row and a few older turbines at the center. In addition, a small reservoir with a small water turbine. EGAT is responsible for the operation of the turbines, but it is also an excursion site with a fantastic view.

An older wind turbine on a grid tower. The dam is used to generate electricity. Surplus power is used to pump water up from below the large dam, after which power can be generated when needed. I consider it to be more of a test setup than anything real.

On 11 November we took a trip up to Khao Yai National Park. We started by visiting a Danish-built wind farm. The park has around 12-14 wind turbines which are located high up in the mountainous landscape.

View from the wind farm down over the Takhong dam. The highway below was largely finished when I visited the site 5 years ago. Something has gone completely wrong since it has not yet been put into use. I also didn't see ups and downs from the road anywhere.

I don't know if I have violated Thai law by acting as a rickshaw driver for the lady.

Buddha figures are erected everywhere in Thailand, and the wind farm is no exception. Thais make pilgrimages to these places to take thousands of pictures.

One kilometer from the Khao Yai Thiang Wind Farm there is a view over the national park and the Lum Takhong dam. It is hard to find a view as beautiful as this. The dam is an earth-filled dam across the Lam Takhong River that flows through a fissure. It was built in 1974 and its primary purpose is to divert water from above the dam for irrigation.
