Ayutthaya History Park
75-80 Km north of Bangkok lies the city of Ayutthaya, which was the capital of Siam from approx. 1350 to 1767. In the middle of the 1300s, a kingdom that had its center in Ayutthaya emerged. After a long time, the Burmese occupied Ayutthaya in 1767, after which they completely destroyed the city and its thousands of magnificent buildings. Large parts of the cultural values of the day were lost. The city was never rebuilt. Further down the Chao Phraya River - in a convenient strategic location, surrounded by a swamp at a flood, a new capital, Krung Thep, which means the City of the Angels, was attacked against an earlier Chinese trade settlement called Bangkok. Ayutthaya received to be the capital of Siam 400 years.
The city consists of a whole series of ruins, this description covers one of them - Ayutthaya History Park (read more here
